Q.
Can I work in Spain?
A. Yes. Any member of the EU can work and live
in any country within the EU.
Q.
Do I need an ID card if I move to Spain?
A. Yes. You are advised to carry your Spanish
ID with you at all times. Application forms are available at national
police stations.
Q.
Do I need a Spanish bank account?
A. Yes. If you wish to purchase a property in
Spain, a bank account is needed to complete a purchase. Your utility
bills will also be deducted from this account. If you are transferring
monies from the UK, allow 5 working days for the transfer to complete.

What is the Spanish health care like?
A. The NHS in Spain is on the whole very good,
openly available to retired EU residents.
Q.
Can my children go to school in Spain?
A. Yes. The state education system is excellent,
and free of charge. The children are taught in Spanish here, which
will help them pick it up very quickly. All qualifications achieved
are internationally recognised. If you prefer, there are also
fee paying “International” schools in the more densely
populated coastal areas, where your children can learn in English.

What about my pets?
A. All animals with the relevant paperwork, inoculations
and microchips, will be allowed into the country. It is advisable
to get a pet passport. If you have do not have one, your pet will
have to go into quarantine if you return to the UK with it.
Q.
Do I need a Spanish will?
A. If you want to pass your property in Spain down to
your family, then you must have a Spanish will.
Q.
How much do I allow for fees when purchasing a property in Spain?
A. Allow for approximately 10% of the purchase amount.
The fees are made up of IVA (Property tax) and any other fees
such as notary or solicitor fees etc.
